MANZAC SUR VERN

Walks and hikes around Manzac sur Vern (Grignols Château); more than 700km of hiking trails in the Vallée de L’Isle and also in Manzac (circuit Manzac). Feel like eating out, the village has two restaurants which you can go to on foot from la Grange Couture – L’Estaminet informal and friendly atmosphere with fare to the suit kids – Le Lion D’Or proposes specialities from the Périgord. Both restaurants have both indoor and shaded outdoor terraces.

VILLAMBLARD (9 km)

Château Barrière, 12th and 15th century, registered as a historical monument in 1948. The church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens 18th and 19th centuries. The distillery Clovis Reymond was founded in 1834 and proposed pre-booked visits. La Gallerie PHI2 (art and craft). For hikes, the trail GR654 crosses the village from north-west to south-west – approximately 5 km.

NEUVIC SUR L’ISLE (10 km)

Visit the Château de Neuvic with its botanical gardens, the leisure park with public pook, many excursions are possible – kayak, canoë, rowboat, electric boat etc. on the river L’Isle. You can take the Via Verde to go for walks or cycles, the walnut oil mill “Moulin de la Veyssière“, the pottery at the Château de Fratteau…

SAINT MAYME DE PEYEROL (11 km)

Saint Mayme is a magnificent setting for the pumpkin festival in October (second Sunday of the month).

There is an extremely large market, apple and grape press, bread baking oven, exhibitions and workshops for kids and of course hundreds of pumpkins and gourds.

SAINT ASTIER (12 min)

A very large market on Thursday morning with clothes, food, crafts etc. Very pretty village with a 1éth century church. Pop into the tourist office and ask for a “discovery sheet” which will take you around the village. Relax in a superb setting next to the weir and with a view of the bridge on a site where the shoe factory once stood. Many places to walk along the river or the canal (from Gravelle to Annesse-et-Beaulieu). Kids play area in St Astier with a flying fox on the banks of the river Isle and possibilities to rent out canoes, kayaks or ou stand up paddle.

VERGT (13 km)

Don’t miss this village which offers large markets twice a week in the summer and also a tree climbing park Vergtaventures. On the third Sunday in May Vergt holds its Strawberry Festival with its famous 3m diameter strawberry tart!

PERIGUEUX (15 km)

The town of Pérgueux has a multitude of activities and visits : the old town with its medieval cobbled streets and two huge markets per week (Wednesday and Saturday mornings). In the centre is the Saint Front Catherdral, a classified Unesco World Heritage site in 1998. A variety of tours adn visit are organised by the Tourist Office for example cycling excursions to visit the gardens or guided tours to visit the secrets of the old town.

Museums : Vesunna Gallo-Romain Museum, Museum of Art and Archeology of the Perigord (MAAP), the Military Museum, the Trompe l’oeil museum and workshop .

The Dordogne boasts eight golf courses, the closest in Périgueux which is only 20 minutes away. A host of adventure parks, gardens, castles, caves will ensure there is always something for you to see and do. Don’t hesitate to contact Périgueux tourist office to find out more. Note also that from Perigueux to Bordeaux there is the Voie Verte, a pedestrian and bike path) which offers a pedestrian and bike path of more than 100km.
